There's a story in today's Sunday Times which underlines the sinister intentions of Zanu Labour and the EU - the hacking of home PCs by the police without a warrant.
Why on earth would they want to do that?
Apparently, the Home Office has quietly adopted a new plan to allow police across Britain routinely to hack into people’s personal computers without a warrant.
The move, which follows a decision by the European Union’s council of ministers in Brussels, has angered civil liberties groups and opposition MPs. They described it as a sinister extension of the surveillance state which drives “a coach and horses” through privacy laws.
The hacking is known as “remote searching”. It allows police or MI5 officers who may be hundreds of miles away to examine covertly the hard drive of someone’s PC at his home, office or hotel room.
Material gathered in this way includes the content of all e-mails, web-browsing habits and instant messaging.
It also means, as I have been flagging up, that Britons can now be arrested for something which isn't a crime here but is in, say, Greece. This is the thin end of a very, very thick wedge.
We are now, officially, living in a police superstate.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with you that European Arrest Warrants are entirely undemocratic.
Unfortunately, I can tell you that there are many Members of the Government and of the Conservative Party who fail to recognise the importance of keeping Judicial powers in the UK.

Sorry but I have to disagree Francis. The police are literally a law unto themselves. Look at the new passports, the fingerprinting, the monitoring, the cctv - the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteFair comment about the lack of political parties fighting to keep judicial powers in this country (though this is to be expected since this bunch of clowns signed the one-sided agreement with the USA to deport our criminals such as bankers etc).
